Apologies to any WNBA fans out there, it&#8217;s not really a priority on our editorial calendar (we&#8217;re too busy with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/this-might-be-the-strangest-review-of-an-accounting-firm-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more important things<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When she left the Green Dot at the end of FY19, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/apparently-outgoing-deloitte-ceo-cathy-engelbert-is-going-to-be-the-next-wnba-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Engelbert made the transition to commissioner of the WNBA<\/a> where she remains to this day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/wnba\/comments\/1fff9ru\/bailey_caldwell_cathy_engelbert_is_holding_the\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">taking flak from fans for being too businesslike<\/a> and speaking in PR. Those years of Deloitte training are really paying off for her. At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnba.com\/news\/wnba-delivers-record-setting-2024-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the WNBA is stronger than ever<\/a> with 2024 its most-watched regular season in 24 years, game attendance at 22-year highs, and merchandise sales up <strong>601%<\/strong> from 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"There&#039;s a lot of capital coming into women&#039;s sports, says WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ehm9H0Myvls?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With WNBA playoffs underway, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/09\/25\/from-deloitte-ceo-to-wnba-commissioner-inside-cathy-engelberts-daily-routine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Fortune<\/em> decided to see what she&#8217;s up to<\/a> and asked what her average day looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>8:30 a.m.:<\/strong> Engelbert arrives at the office, often a bit earlier than her colleagues. After spending the majority of her career in the corporate world, Engelbert says she had to adjust when she entered the sports industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou got in really early when you were in the corporate world, you were trying to beat the traffic that commute and you had meetings, sports, because there\u2019s so many games and so many things that night and weekends,\u201d Engelbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy first day, I got in at 7:30, but no one else arrived until about nine,\u201d she said. \u201cNow I aim to get in around 8:30 or 9.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/former-deloitte-ceo-is-a-big-fan-of-smors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she still practices SMOR<\/a>, a recharging technique she learned in her public accounting days. &#8220;I learned this at Deloitte because when you\u2019re running a firm of that size, you have to find time,&#8221; she told TIME in 2022. &#8220;We dubbed them smors. My EA used to put them on my calendar: Small moments of recovery. You need moments during the day.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yep, still taking those small moments of recovery and still under the same acronym.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>12 p.m.:<\/strong> Engelbert adheres to a time-saving regime she refers to as \u201cSMORE,\u201d an acronym for \u201csmall moments of recovery.\u201d She adds these to her calendar, seeing lunch as a networking opportunity or a chance to take a break and get outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUsually over the lunch hour, I need to get out. If I\u2019m working from home, I go for a walk and then have lunch when I get back,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Good reminder to all of us to go get a little sun on our cheeks in the middle of the work day.
