Layoffs are underway as of October 8, we&#8217;ll update with more information when we have it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pwc-laying-off-1-800-employees-plans-restructuring-of-products-business-b5dfe7c1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exclusive reporting by Mark Maurer at WSJ<\/a>, PwC will be laying off about 1,800 people, or about 2.5% of the workforce. That&#8217;s PwC <strong>US<\/strong>, guys. The reason given is &#8220;restructuring its products and technology group to simplify operations and address declining demand for certain advisory services.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Big Four accounting firm is in the process of cutting employees in the U.S. and elsewhere, primarily in its U.S. advisory and products and technology operations, according to people familiar with the matter. The cuts, about half of which are offshore, span employees ranging from associates to managing directors and include business services, audit and tax, the people said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait, they&#8217;re cutting offshore people? What is happening. The worst part is that the firm won&#8217;t be informing the soon-to-be-axed until October, according to WSJ&#8217;s sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were informed last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/were-hearing-pwc-crts-will-be-rough-this-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PwC would be raising the bar in performance reviews<\/a> for the express purpose of trimming some fat without outright laying them off and it sounds like that continued this year. That and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/the-rumor-is-true-pwc-is-returning-to-the-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a soft return-to-office<\/a> must not have been effective enough to avoid this unfortunate situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last time we wrote about PwC layoffs on our side of the world was <strong>back in 2009<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/people-are-still-talking-about-those-pwc-layoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People Are Still Talking About Those PwC Layoffs<\/a>. Allow us to quote a bit of that article <strong>written 15 years ago<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d0dbdc\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>Remember those&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goingconcern.com\/2010\/07\/layoff-watch-10-pricewaterhousecoopers-cuts-500-in-internal-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PwC layoffs<\/a>&nbsp;in Tampa a week or so back? Right. Anyway, the&nbsp;<em>St. Petersburg Times<\/em>&nbsp;decided to poke around this story a little bit more and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/archive\/2010\/08\/08\/for-pwc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discovered some things<\/a> that most of you have known for awhile: there are two very different sides to large accounting firms and PwC is no exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>PricewaterhouseCoopers has cultivated an image as one of corporate America\u2019s upper-tier workplaces. Competitive pay. Great benefits. A perennial on&nbsp;<em>Fortune\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;list of Best Places to Work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human resources experts with the company have preached to clients about effectively managing workers and using layoffs as the last option in times of crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, interviews with a half-dozen current and former Pricewaterhouse employees support a different picture of a financial evolution within the company in recent years. The accounting and professional services giant, known as PwC, has quietly and methodically slashed hundreds if not thousands of well-paying jobs, offshoring many functions to cheaper labor overseas.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s rough out there.
